A lot of adults today are finally realizing the advantage of having the smile they have always wanted. Adults make up almost 50% of our patients! It’s shouldn’t be surprising that adults of all ages want to have a better smile.
There are plenty of adults that hesitate to get braces because of how they look, but if you think about it in the long term you can see it as an investment into a beautiful new smile. There are two main treatments that you may be able to choose from: Invisalign or Braces.
Of course, these are booth great ways to correct your smile and plenty of people have had success with both options. For some patients, braces are the way to go. For others, they would rather only use Invisalign. Which ever you plan on choosing you should definitely talk it over with your San Diego orthodontist and decide together on which option will benefit you more.
Traditional Braces
The technology of today’s braces has come a long way from the train track style braces from years ago. Modern braces are way more comfortable and discrete because the come in various clear and white options. Usually, braces are made up of three different parts. 1) The brackets that are attached on every tooth. 2) The bonding material that attaches the tooth to the bracket. 3) The archwire, which is a thin metal wire that goes from bracket to bracket and is part of the system that uses slight force to make the teeth move.
Modern day braces are now made of ceramic and thin wires, so it makes them more discrete than the old fashion metal braces.
Invisalign
The Invisalign option straightens teeth without wires and brackets, which makes it so much more comfortable and discrete.
Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners that are worn all day to straighten teeth. Every set of aligners is created on a computer generated program that guides your teeth into the proper position. Each set of aligners are worn for around two weeks before moving on to the next one. You can remove them whenever you eat, drink, and brush your teeth, which offers much more freedom than you would have with braces.
What Adults are Looking For?
Most adult patients want discretion, convenience and comfort. Even though there plenty of options to choose from when deciding to correct your smile, the majority of adults choose Invisalign because of its invisible nature and the little impact on their lifestyle.
